Jinju Namgang Yudeung Lantern Festival

Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival - Where Tradition and Innovation Illuminate the Night
The Battle of Jinju was a war in which General Kim Si-min of Chungmugong defeated 20,000 Japanese troops who invaded Jinju Castle in 1592 with about 3,800 troops. It used military tactics to block Japanese troops crossing the Namgang River by putting a sky lantern (風燈) in the sky and floating it on the Namgang River with a torch. The Yudeung of the Jinju Namgang River was also used as a means of communication to convey family greetings during the war. The Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival began following the tradition that has been handed down since then.
