The Iho Tewoo Festival in Jeju is a vibrant celebration of the island’s vanishing fishing culture, spotlighting traditional maritime practices through a variety of engaging activities. This festival features a reenactment of anchovy fishing using Jeju’s historic Tewoo boat and nets, along with a ceremonial Tewoo launch, a torch parade by Haenyeo (female freedivers), and an exciting Tewoo rowing competition. Attendees can dive into hands-on experiences like Wondam-style fishing, where participants build stone walls to trap fish, try their hand at Tewoo rowing, or create Tewoo mock-ups. The festival, which embraces the theme of “Tewoo, Wondam, and the Radiant Lighthouse,” aims to revive and celebrate Jeju’s unique maritime heritage, offering both locals and tourists a lively and educational experience.
