Overview

The Gangneung Danoje Festival, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is one of South Korea’s most celebrated festivals, boasting a thousand-year-old tradition and attracting over 500,000 tourists annually. The 2024 Gangneung Danoje Festival, themed “Rise, Dano,” will take place over eight days from June 6 to June 13. The festival features the essence of traditional culture with ceremonies such as ‘Jerye’ and ‘Gutpan,’ where gods and people communicate, as well as the nation’s largest marketplace, state-designated cultural heritage events, citizen participation activities, and traditional folk games.
